It was an Epic Day of Skiing at Stevens Pass for Toby, Nate and me.
Toby and I were both 2 plankers with Nate being the lone snowboarder which is rare because most of my demographic snowboards. As REO Agents in Snohomish County it can be hard to get away at times, but the week before Christmas everything had slowed down so we decided to capitalize on the opportunity. I believe this is going to be phenomenal season because the mountain opened early and currently has a larger than normal base. The day before it had been snowing a bit in the lower elevations, so when I left my house in Marysville at the BCD there was some snow on the ground. We all met at the KW Marysville and of course Nate was late as usual. LOL.
The Video "An Epic Day off for a Snohomish County REO Agent at Stevens Pass" below is my interpretation of the events of that day. Basically there was almost no one there, about 27 degrees with light snow, 6" in last 24hrs and 40" in the last 4 days. Freaking Epic Conditions. Nate Started the day off by immediately trying a large jump off of Hogsback and crashing literally right after we got off the lift (see 36 Secs). Toby has a memorial able run off of Tye at 54 Secs and then 3 huge jumps that he doesn't quite land under the chairlift on Hogsback throughout the REO Agent day at Stevens video. At 1min 15secs Nate plans the jump that lead to him landing on his head and ankle. The audio in that part is horrible, but you will get the idea.
Even though Nate was hurt, he continued to Snowboard until after lunch. It became unbearable and he realized something was wrong. Toby and I, like the good friends we are, couldn't leave the snow and continued to ski the rest of the day. After the day was over, we picked Nate up from ski patrol and wheeled him out the car in his wheelchair. Luckily nothing was broken and Nate just had an ankle brace and crutches for the last 2 weeks. Below is an X-ray of Nate's spine after the crash, along with some other pics and our vid.
